Plans for Growth

Part of our Mission is to “deliver the highest quality of education, at the heart of our communities, for the benefit of the children and young people of North Derbyshire and surrounding area.”

To this end, we are looking to grow the MAT in a sustainable manner with an aim of achieving a size of about 12-15 schools and 5-6,000 students within the Trust.

The Trust would ideally like to have a mix of schools at different stages of development, with the number of “good” or “outstanding” schools being larger than the number of schools aiming for good in order to ensure that there is adequate capacity to support schools which need to improve.

The Trust does not intend to expand beyond a geographical area that would take in a new school more than an hour’s drive from its current geographical hub in the Chesterfield area.

We are interested in developing a “hub” model where a number of local schools form a sub-group – this is an ideal way for primary schools to support one another actively.

The Trust is particularly interested in developing a relationship with secondary schools interested in joining the Trust to enable it to build on the extremely positive experience we have had with our primary schools to date in that sector.

We would like to involve senior staff and governors from other schools in developing our strategy further as a Trust and hope that they would see joining CLT as a key opportunity for career development in the future at the same time as benefitting their staff and students by working with us.
